Post-doctoral Position
" In situ electron microscopy of controlled growth of gold nanostructures on plant virus"

In the framework of a collaborative project between the IMM Group at the ITODYS laboratory (CNRS/ University of Paris) and the MeANS group at the MPQ laboratory (CNRS / University of Paris), we look for an experienced post-doc to conduct liquid-phase TEM experiments with the view to study the growth of anisotropic nanostructures on icosahedral plant virus.

Our consortium is a multidisciplinary team promoting basic and applied research in the field of nano-technology, nanobiotechnology and electron microscopy. The future postdoc will work on two major topics: the biomineralization of gold nanostructures on
plant virus in solution and the monitoring of gold growth by several technics (UV absorption spectroscopy, SAXS and in situ TEM). He/she will work alongside multidisciplinary teams of chemists, physicists and biologists to notably carry out liquid-cell transmission electron microscopy experiments in order to control the experimental parameters to form anisotropic nanostructures and obtain materials for plasmonic applications. The project will benefit from access to the world-leading instrumentation of the MPQ lab, combining a JEOL double-corrected TEM and state-of-the-art liquid-cell TEM holders. This 12 months position will start in September 2021, and will be funded by the"Science and Engineering for Advanced Materials and devices" (SEAM) Labex (Lab of Excellence) .

Requirements and qualification

- PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, physics or biophysics.
- Experience in transmission electron microscopy (skills in liquid-cell TEM will be a major asset).
- Skills in image processing and data analysis for TEM.
- Expertise in wet-chemical synthesis of nanomaterials, if possible on gold nanostructures.
- Knowledge about biomineralization of nanomaterials.
And also: Strong motivation to perform in a multidisciplinary environment, autonomy, ability to work
in a team, ability to write up experimental data to publication standard, effective verbal
communication skills in English (or in French).
